REBELS WEEKLY 16-17 Issue 2 (11-28)

REBELS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO 9!

The Castlegar Rebels added two more wins to finish off the month of November with a perfect 8-0 record, extending their win streak to 9 games. On Wednesday the Nelson Leafs came to town hoping to turn things around from their recent struggles. Both teams came hard out of the gate, but it was the Rebels coming out 2-0 after the first frame, with Nico Sidoni and Ed Lindsey scoring the goals for the Rebels. In what turned out to be a high scoring second period, the Rebels red-hot Power Play put the first of the period on the board with local scorer Ed Lindsey getting his second of the night. Nelson would score three goals in the period, with the Rebels getting two more courtesy of Logan Styler and Jacob Boston, making it 5-3 Rebels after 40 minutes. In the final frame, scoring slowed down significantly as John Moeller would add an empty netter to seal the deal for the Rebels and confirm a 6-3 victory for the Rebels. Goaltender Jason Mailhiot stopped 30 of 33 shots, and Nico Sidoni was awarded player of the game for the high flying Rebels. On Saturday night, the Golden Rockets made the trip to Castlegar in hopes to halt the streaky Rebels and turn things around for themselves after being on a 10 game losing streak. The Rebels came out hard right off the hop and would out shoot the Rockets 23-2 in the first frame, allowing them to gain a 4-0 lead. Goal scorers in the first were Kirkland Spencer, Ed Lindsey, John Moeller, as well as Vince Bitonti. There would be no signs of slowing down as Chance Szott and Jacob Boston scored two more for the Rebels in the 2nd, and then in the 3rd period Szott added his second of the game to make it a very convincing 7-0 victory for the Rebels, making the month of November a perfect 8-0.

The Rebels will be in action this week on Friday Dec.2nd against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats in Creston and then again on Saturday Dec.3rd vs Grand Forks they look to push their current win streak to 10.

Head Coach Bill Rotheisler had this to say about his teams recent success! The streak has been fun and we are proud of our accomplishments so far, but we try not to focus on that. Our job is to get better on a day to day basis. The streak and overall success is the effect. The boys do a sensational job at turning the page on a weekly basis, win or lose back to work Monday and preparing for the next week of games
