The Castlegar Rebels have moved into recruiting for the 2021-2022 season and it’s full steam ahead! At the conclusion of the 2020-2021 season, in which the Rebels were only able to play 3 regular season games (with 2 wins and 1 loss), the Rebels will lose 5 graduating 20 year old players. The holes these players leave will require big shoes to fill, but the Rebels are excited to announce the first player to step in and fill those shoes, Tanner Truswell.
Truswell, a 2003 born defenceman from Calgary, Alberta played this past season with the International Hockey Academy U18 Prep team. He was able to add 1 goal in the 6 games they played this season. Truswell is coming to the Rebels with a lot of familiarity, as he has been a player the Rebels first scouted during the 2019-2020 season. This past fall he also travelled to Castlegar to attend the Rebels Main Camp to get a feel for the community, the organization, his anticipated future teammates and the coaching staff. “During my time at camp last year I learned a lot about the program and it left me with a very good impression. I feel like I will be in good hands when I come to play this season” Truswell commented about his time in Castlegar during the 2020 Main Camp.
“The Rebels are excited to add Tanner to the Rebels line up next season, he is a highly skilled defender and is very fluid when working with the puck” Head Coach and General Manager Carter Duffin added about Truswell, “beyond that he is a young man with a very high level character. He will fit into our program and culture with ease”. As Truswell prepares for his season in Castlegar he said he is looking forward to stepping in to be a two way defenceman who has a high hockey IQ and can move the puck well. Truswell added “I have a good stick defensively and I love to learn more about the game”.
The Rebels are excited to welcome Tanner Truswell to Castlegar! When asked about what the fans can expect from him this season Truswell said “Rebels fans next year can expect a defenseman who can play in all situations and will do anything to help the team win”.
The Rebels continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation and PHO and are hopeful to be able to kick off Main Camp on time (early September) at the Castlegar Complex.
