Main Camp Announcement 2020

The Castlegar Rebels are excited to announce the details for its upcoming Main Camp for the 2020-2021 season. “We understand that these are challenging times, and there will be new procedures and precautions in place, including following an approved KIJHL Health and Safety plan, but we are excited to continue our planning and preparation for the upcoming season” said Head Coach and General Manager Carter Duffin. The camp will open on Friday, September 18 at the Castlegar Complex, two weeks prior to the anticipated start date of the 2020-2021 KIJHL Regular Season. Following camp, the Rebels will plan for some exhibition games allowing many players extended opportunities to earn their spot in the line-up. Main Camp is scheduled to include two practices lead by the Rebels coaching staff as well as 3 intra-squad games, with a rotating roster for each game – “rotating the rosters through the weekend will allow the players to begin to build relationships and chemistry with everyone at camp, as well as give players to have opportunities to play in different situations and with various line mates” says Duffin.

The Rebels are coming off of a strong rebuilding season, which seen the Rebels get themselves back into a playoff spot at the end of last season. The rebuilt roster will also see a number of returning players coming back to the Rebels this season. Head Coach and General Manager Carter Duffin says every spot still needs to be earned at camp, “We are very excited about the core group of players that are excited to return next season. Many of them have taken advantage of their open schedule due to COVID-19 to increase their training time. On top of that, they will still need to come back to camp ready to work, as they are expected to set the bar for our new players in terms of culture, attitude, work ethic and character. For players attending camp for their first time, everyone will have a real opportunity to showcase themselves and develop a relationship with the organizations staff. Every player in camp (veterans, committed players, recruits) will have an opportunity to make our team, if they prove it, they will earn it.”

The Rebels will cap their camp at two teams to ensure the highest level of competition, and to give every player the opportunity to spend time with and be challenged by the Rebels staff. Duffin notes that the camp will include fitness testing, practices lead by the Rebels coaching staff and intra-squad games, allowing players to showcase themselves to the best of their abilities in all aspects of the game. “As a staff, we want to spend time and build a relationship with all of the new faces during the weekend. We want to make sure they are the right fit for the Rebels program and our vision to move forward, which is not only on the ice, but their personal character off the ice and in the community as well” explains Duffin. The Rebels expect camp to fill quickly with the limited numbers, and encourage interested players to reach out to Coach Duffin with any questions about attending Main Camp as soon as possible. The cost for players to register for camp is $150.
