Rebels Trade for Evan Della Paolera; Sign Jesse Belley and Jordan Wood

The Castlegar Rebels got deeper and made moves to assure that no matter who is on the ice, there will be skill, speed and size to face. The Rebels traded for Evan Della Paolera from the Osoyoos Coyotes. Della Paolera brings size and speed to the line up with his 6-4 frame and a successful year with the Osoyoos Coyotes under his belt. GM and Head Coach Bill Rotheisler commented,

We first spotted Evan watching game film last season, but also on the ice in Penticton this summer. Acquiring a guy who exploits his assets and size, that is polished and is a good player, that is as committed and good in the community as Evan is, was a deal we honestly didn’t expect to materialize. We lost a specific heart and soul, physical, yet skilled player last year that has been really tough to replace. We have had our eye on Evan since then, and I know a lot of other teams in his former division are happy to see him bring his assets in a different division.

In addition, the Rebels signed Coeur d. Alene Academy player Jesse Belley.  Jesse led the CDA Prep team, who plays out of the CSSHL’s top division, in goals. Belley brings skill, speed, and work ethic to the line up. Creston native Jordan Wood has been signed as well and will join the orange and gold on a full-time basis. Jordan, who played Creston Rep last year, is a skilled and smart 2-way player who led his team in points last season. New Rebels commented: Evan Della Paolera.

I am looking forward to coming to Castlegar. I have heard great things about the city and the organization. I can’t wait to start the next chapter of my hockey career as a Rebel.

Jordan Wood: I am happy to be making Castlegar my home for the year, it’s a great group of guys and I’m excited for what the year has to bring. I am very happy that the Rebels have given me an opportunity to play for them.

Jesse Belley: I’m happy to join the Rebels and get my career going here.  The boys are great and the area is a perfect place for me to call home.  Definitely proud to be here.

Castlegar Rebels Finalize Staff with Hiring of Angus Campbell

The Castlegar Rebels are pleased to announce the hiring of Angus Campbell as Assistant Coach.

Angus spent the last 3 seasons as goaltending instructor for GDI, played 3 seasons in the Western States League for Seattle and EL Paso, and graduated from the Athol College of Notre Dame in Wilcox, Saskatchewan. Campbell rounds out a staff that includes Parker Hickey (Assistant GM), James Ross (Assistant Coach), Jake Postnikoff (Assistant Coach), Patrick Zubick (Goaltending Coach) and Jackson Bruce-Fuoco (Skills Coach).

Campbell commented,

I want to thank Bill and the rest of the operations staff for the opportunity to coach at this level. I am very excited to be a part of the Rebels organization. The work has already started for a successful season, I believe we have all the right pieces to continue doing so and I’m honoured to be a part of it.

Vince Bitonti named 2017-18 Captain of the Castlegar Rebels

Vince Bitonti has been named Captain of the Castlegar Rebels

In what seems to be a trend in naming defenceman captain (Daniel Petten, Aaron Petten, Erik Alden, etc.), Bitonti is entering his 3rd season with the Rebels. Vince has 81 points in 99 games played as a Rebel. Prior to that Vince played in the NWCAA in Calgary, AB.

Vince has shown through camp and the start of the season that he has the qualities and drive of a leader both on and off the ice. We are very comfortable with the leadership group chosen for the 2017/2018 campaign and believe these four young men will shoulder the leadership burden extremely well.

Commented Assistant General Manager Parker Hickey. The rest of the leadership group consists of John Moeller, Ed Lindsey and Everett Hicks as Alternate Captains
